TexPrep Program Applications Available Now!

Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program (TexPREP) is an opportunity for middle school students (6th-8th Grade) to be exposed to higher-level mathematics, science and engineering studies. This year's program will take place June 3-July 18, 2018. The TexPREP Program aims to increase the number of competently prepared underrepresented minority and female students from the TexPREP area who will ultimately pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) studies in college; to reinforce the mathematics preparation of these students in the pursuit of mathematics, science and engineering at the pre-college and college levels; to increase the retention rate of these student in college; and to acquaint students with professional opportunities in STEM. The student’s application, student responses, nomination forms, school grade report and pre-test scores will be used to determine selection into the program. Completed applications will be reviewed and selection will be made by April 8, 2019. Application deadline is January 15, 2019. TexPREP applications are available in two formats, online or on paper. Below you will find a brief description on both. A $30 assessment fee will be applied to all applications submitted. Submitting application and fee does not guarantee acceptance into TexPREP. Students will be selected on the bases of grades, exam results and application, fee will be not be refunded if student is not selected to participate this summer. If and once the student is selected to be a participant a $100 tuition fee will be required by April 29, 2019. Student Requirements: -6th to 8th grader who is not currently enrolled in, or has not previously taken Algebra I -80 or higher course average in math, science, and English -Must be in good academic standing in all courses -Satisfactory nominations from two teachers -Satisfactory conduct Online Application: TexPREP 2019 online application link: Please visit the link provided above to submit online application. These forms can be found on the online portal to be printed or you can pick up these forms at our office located at TAMIU Student Center 126. Paper Application: Visit Mrs. Stellema's Office to pick up an application. Paper application must be submitted at our office starting November 15, 2018. Only cash and checks will be accepted for paper applications. Supplemental forms will be required the day of testing. These forms will be given to applicant upon submission of application. In addition, we will be having a meeting tomorrow, November 7 ,2018, for any parents who would like to attend.
