From the Principal

  Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is almost upon us! It is amazing how fast 9 months have passed!
The years end comes with a  tremendous sense of accomplishment.  From our band and orchestra receiving Superior and Sweepstakes awards at their recent UIL competitions to our cheer and dance team receiving National Champion awards!  This year many of our students also  accomplished many recognitions in citywide and district competitions such as the Regional Spelling Bee, Laredo Poetry Festival and UISD Writing  Contests.  Of course we must not  forget the tremendous amount of learning that took place throughout the year.  Our students worked  extremely hard this year and certainly rose to the challenges set forth at the beginning of the year.  They  demonstrated great character and an outstanding work ethic.
We recently received the results from the first round of 8th grade Reading STAAR testing and the outcome was extraordinary! Our students not only obtained  exceptional scores for their  performance but  exhibited significant individual student progress from last years scores.   I am confident that our pending scores for the 6th and 7th graders as well as 8th grade Math, Science and Social Studies will prove to be just as remarkable!
To our 8th graders, the UMS  administration and staff wish you all the best as you move on to high school.  We are hopeful that you will always use the skills and tools that we  prepared you with to help you be successful in what is to come in your future.  Please know that we are   incredibly proud of your  accomplishments thus far and are eternally grateful to have been a part of your lives throughout the last three years.  You will be greatly missed!
Lastly, I would like to thank our magnificent parents once again for your endless support this year and making this a memorable and  successful one!
Your very proud UMS Principal,
Mrs. R. Morales
